<< On the right are the way over exposed College Scholars.... if they ever come back to town Kings might have a run on eggs.
On the left is a small sampling of the pretty mediocre "Open Space" photos.

High-School Art Work - Mendham High School Art Department Samples:
it has gotten horribly monotonous.... |
Mendham Borough Pond

|
Local Programs |
| Veterans of the Mendhams and Cesters ...Greatest Generation - Basically a videotape version of the online content. The veteran advice offered isn't much more sophisticated, or worth much more than the "wooden nickel"-- you are advised not to take. Unless you know of some of these local veterans' I don't know if there is much to see. Tributes to sacrifice I can understand ...but I'm not sure that's what this is. (visual, with instrumental background music) |
Our Town Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow - It starts off a bit stale... but it eventually finds a sense of humor and by the end applause does seem appropriate. There is no visual eye candy... just basically a subject lecture, but you'll at least feel painlessly educated, and I think, glad you tuned in. |
This history of the Rockaway Valley Railroad was really very well done... I probably would prefer a 10 minute condensed version.... but for people who like historical details this is the show for you.The Day the Train Came to Brookside Some other written history |
Apple Jack - This history of the production of Apple[jack] Brandy in Mendham was produced by the same folks that did the railroad video. If you like one, you will probably like the other... for whatever reason I wasn't as interested in this history ... maybe if they added some colorful stories from the consumer end. |
Historic Walks: Burnett Brook pt.1: A pleasant, lightly educational tour of some regional park land... it's not action packed, or high drama, just a nice peaceful walk in the park.
(right) Burnett Brook pt.2: What is it about sequels and their propensity to disappoint.... if you are feeling too good and think you need a little depressing, or some help sleeping, this pile of "pudding" is for you. |
Washington Valley Historic District part.1: This history lesson was a little dry as there isn't much story to go with it... I can't say it was "fun" to watch, and as I'm not much on remembering names I don't think I permanently learned much.
(right) Washington Valley part.2: Part two somehow seemed better, perhaps it was just the sunnier conditions. |
| Sammy's Cider Mill - If your gonna watch one of these segments on the history of applejack this is probably the one to watch. It had some strange-- trying a little too hard-- segment transitions but it did a very good job of showing and explaining the milling process. |
| Buttermilk Falls Historic Walk - Another walk in the park on a pre-winter day... these shows do seem to be getting a bit samie but... If I remember correctly part 1 provides a little history regarding the property's previous life as an iron mine... part 2 explores some of the "workings" of the old Mendham waterworks. It's worth watching, but not terribly entertaining. |
| Historic Walks: Brookside Pt. 1 - Some nice video of the homes with in the Brookside historic district.... and little else.... and I mean that literally as three-quarters of the soundtrack is damaged or missing. If you sometimes like watching some paint dry you might be able to resist the temptation to reach for the remote. |
Charcoal Burning - ...or having "fun with fire". Basically this is a one-woman show demonstrating, and explaining the history of, making charcoal. Like a lot of how-to and history lessons I would have preferred the condensed version.... but if historical minutia is your thing, or you have an interest in archaic science... or if you fondly remember your days in the boy or girl Scouts, you might enjoy earning this merit badge. [1 hr] |
| Sense of History - This was like a poetic sonnet fondly remembering what was circa the 1920's/30's. There isn't much real history here... just kind of a quaint description of the lost city of Hootersville. I suppose every generation thinks they grew up in the "best of times, and the worst of times" and if you're getting kind of long of tooth this is a nice little tribute to the times from whence you hatched. |
We're going to arrest your ass...m'kay. Yes, parents need to be told it's OK to search their children's rooms, and leaf through that personal diary while your at it. The only good parent is one who demonstrates complete denial of the inevitability of rational experimentation, and can communicate the loving message of distrust. Zero tolerance for logic... its your patriotic duty. |
Mendham Township Winter Festival: Fortunately it appears this was a one time event and the First Annual, was the last annual. The highlight of the show was Scary Larry and his magical antics... if you like that creepy feeling you get when you hear the words Jerry Lewis this is the show for you. |
School Sports: Frankly this isn't content I have much personal interest in... Being a whore for knowledge-- especially knowledge about whores .... I no longer waste time watching even professional sports.... but, time permitting, I will review what I see. Regarding football games, I did see [Mendham vs. Weequahic] it was really very well produced by Patriot Media... even some slow-motion replays. HS Girls Soccer: There is a play-by-play announcer and the camera does basically follow the action... but ...I ...a...a.. still don't get it.

Not Local Programs: |
The TurtleBack Zoo in winter... ok, it doesn't sound like a great novel... but this home video version does the story justice.... although the animal actors didn't seem very professional ....maybe some black tights would have got them in the mood. Web Site: www.wonderfulworldofwildlife.org |
NASA Connect: Babe-ucation produced by rocket scientists?.... works for me. Actually there isn't much rocket science in this show, but it does provide a reasonably watchable introduction to GIS. Jennifer.. "please-Pulley-on something other than my finger" does make the learning medicine go-down easy. - Web Site: www.larc.nasa.gov |
Access New Jersey #?: The third segment about the production of an Eagle sculpture really is a must see. Kind of makes you wonder why most high-school metal shops haven't produced anything like this. (right) The first segment was "no I'm not laughing with you" GOLD. Even the title "National American Miss Teen" is good nationally American humor... upon viewing you shall be convinced that gossipmongers should be added to the axis of evil... where will they strike next with their Rumors of Mass Destruction... and what poor little slut will be the next victim.... (the middle segment was just a sleazy commercial for a union bookstore) |
Access New Jersey #?: P. U. ....Although Princeton University is referenced in one of the segments... that's not what I was referencing. I think I would rename the show "Pollyanna and the plague" .... the first segment [right] about the educational tool "flat Stanley" had me kind of wishing a 747 would flatten me... isn't playing with paper dolls a subject you should master by the end of nursery school?
The next segment is one of those Warhol-esk slanders of the word "art" kind of things... it is funny... but as a painter I wasn't laughing. The unthymely gourmet cooks a vomit... I mean "omelet" in the third segment. Things wrapped up with a fun filled local practice session for the cliche Weapons of Mass Destruction Attack. |
This was kind of like a PBS program of 20 years ago... it's about some kind of New Jersey youth symphony... not horrible, but you are not likely to want to watch it more than once. a Gail Mooney production. Web Site: www.njys.org |
Changing Images... A news magazine for women... unfortunately the news is some women are as nutty and fruity as the cake they won't bake. There is nothing more spiritually uplifting then women who define feminism-- as the right to be as big an asshole as the average man.. |
Make you wanna Dance: A public works employee with the ambition to be the next Denny Tereo ... it seems like it should be the perfect cable access formula ... but without the Solid imitation Gold Dancers it's not good enough... and yet somehow it's just not bad enough either... some disco lessons would probably make all the difference. Web Site: www.mywdance.com |
Cooking thyme: You should probably only view this program with a plastic tasting television.... or maybe you should just get as drunk as this guy looks.... for me turning the sound off worked pretty good as you are at least spared having overemphasized and mispronounced Italian words stuck in your head. Web Site |
Riparian Buffers: The only good thing was it was only 15 minutes long. The general message was "give a hoot don't pollute" .... the rest of the message was, get your cut of government money by participating in some over engineered, pointy headed, nonsense project that attempts to make common-sense seem like a science. Thank God I avoided college stupifacation. |
Camera on Camden... was a Gail Mooney production that features a joke segment about the horrors of web-cams in Camden... the rest of the "show" is a Gail Mooney advertisement for her still photography... some of the photos aren't bad, but it is just that generic "stock" kind of junk. some of my screen captures created some interesting double exposures |
Delta Bluesmen: If there's a town in America in the mood to hear some old bluzers sing the classic "how whitey done took my impellectual poperty... and my teef too" .... I really don't think it's this one. a Gail Mooney production. |
Arts and Humanities -[#15] This first segment was a junk segment about some art center. This segment was About giving school supplies to Iraqi children... instead of little propaganda flags they should have included green stamps towards a flak jacket.
This last segment just your standard humane Society type stuff... except most of the dogs were pretty ugly... even nasty looking.
This segment about the New Jersey Ballet probably would've been a lot better if they had gotten the lighting right and picked a better ballet than the hunchback.

Perils for Pedestrians: This is a pretty pedestrian pile of bureaucracy mush... the general subject is more like livable communities... but there really isn't any useful content unless you're interested in the hows and whys of bike lanes in Atlanta. The last segment about a museum crosswalk describes some interesting architecture... but overall you should just move along... nothing to see here. |
Family Historian:: Apparently this show has been running some 17 years on some union nj access channel... The host Stephen Conte, some kind of genealogist, isn't exactly Mr. charisma... I guess there's no famous "interesting people" in his lineage. The town has broadcast two different episodes... one really really boring one, and another that at least had the eye candy of Liesl Ehardt ...but be warned, leaving the sound on can cause hypoglycemia. |
| 30 medical minutes: If you don't currently have a little cancer, but you hope to get some soon, than you might think this show about the Cyber Knife radiation treatment is "totally fabulous".... as I would rather not think about it until I totally have to, and as the program totally didn't provide any video of the giant car painting robot turned medical therapist, I kind of thought the program totally sucked. totally! |
Let's Talk: - Yeah.. let's talk... let's talk about a township committee "controlling" a cable "access" channel where they let a shameless marketing company, broadcast a shameless infomercial [disguised as a talk-show] marketing their shameless marketing-- but they won't give locally produced content [InMendham.com...THE T.V. SHOW], that isn't a commercial enterprise, equal, or fair "access". - www.gellmanimages.com || www.jspraa.org |
