THE SILVER BRIGADE receives 2nd formal endorsement of its 10-point legislative proposals platform
The Silver Brigade, a statewide grass roots organization dedicated to achieving major reforms in New Jersey's property taxes, will receive the second formal endorsement, in as many months, of its 10-Point Legislative Proposals platform at the July 5, 2006 Rockaway (NJ) Township Council meeting. The first came from the Township Council of Parsippany-Troy Hills on May 9, 2006.
The Silver Brigade President, Jerry Cantrell, presented the group's proposal to the Rockaway Township Council at the June 27, 2006 monthly Conference Meeting which was enthusiastically received by the governing body and the unusually large turnout (approx. 75) of local Rockaway citizens.
At the conclusion of Mr. Cantrell's presentation Council member Barbara Grimaldi expressed fervent support on behalf of her Ward 3 constituency which includes the large 5000 resident Fox Hills Adult Community.
Council member Michael Dachisen echoed those sentiments on behalf of his Ward 1 constituency and urged Mr. Cantrell to reach out to the NJ League of Municipalities for the opportunity to present the Silver Brigade platform to the 500+ membership of statewide mayors.
Rockaway Mayor Louis Sceusi followed suite by offering to personally contact the League leadership on behalf of the Silver Brigade. Mayor Sceusi, in particular, expressed keen support for the enactment of the Silver Brigade's proposal for a uniform financial reporting format for school budgets statewide. This fundamental requirement would provide municipal officials with a simple method of making "apples to apples" expenditure comparisons in the event of a local school budget defeat and would also allow for a more informed public participation in the preliminary budget process. Current every school district budget format is determined by the local administration.
