| As some may be aware, in the town of Flemington, NJ a dispute over the local race was taken to court to have previously invalidated votes to be counted just for the purpose of settling dispute this Dec.,20th, 2006. Out of 5 casted votes not counted in the past elections, 2 were considered for counting JUST TO SETTLE LOCAL DISPUTE. Well the judge and local Voters Registrar called me to ask for permission to open the submitted ballots (me & mother) but was then rejected because the judge required us to appear in court physically and provide permission. I could not nor my mother because we had no prior warning and I was under the influence of anestesia and could not drive or make any important decisions. The fact our legal votes were dismissed and not counted was really never addressed just their concern for local results. I was told that due to an error in the system I was registered for another town even after I had notified Hunterdon County of address change and recieved both our voters card. I want to believe that race was not an issue but when you are an hispanic (3rd generation born USA citizens) its always in your mind. I am not the normal hispanic not believing in supporting any illegal immegartion by any race even though the majority are of hispanic origins because this is my country. I want to beleive in its foundation of rights but it gets hard when I see so much injustice to me and my family. I served in the military and paid with my health and now I can not work so I collect from SS & VA but that does not give others the right to take my earned rights away so I fight. Flemington is over runned by hispanics but they have no rights so they can not vote or complain leaving me and my own (legally here) having to address issues that very few white or even black Americans do. So I guess it was ok to serve but God forbid I should ask for my right to vote. So far I have contacted the governors office, the attourney general and Hunterdon's Voters registration office but nothing. I will continue to fight for my rights that I beleived I earned. | I don't have any argument with what you said, or have concluded... but I would expand the context by pointing out that my vote wasn't properly counted this past election season either. I voted absentee, and included a couple of write-in votes, which made it possible to later confirm that my vote was not counted. The only explanation I got from the board of elections was the standard mush "some sort of mix up". It really is discouraging to have to accept that even the right to vote isn't really covered by any meaningful guarantee. |
