Mendham: Town Stuff: The Next Council Meeting: 4/3/06

I submitted these questions to the town council:

Will residents participating in town sponsored/subsidized fishing derbies be required to have/purchase a state of New Jersey fishing license? 4/7/06 update: At the meeting the council attorney explained that children under 12 or 13-- she didn't know the exact age--did not need a fishing license, but anyone else fishing would.

You are currently charging what the law describes as the "not to exceed maximum" fee for copies of public documents. Obviously the law provides municipalities the opportunity to charge more reasonable fees... if the town has $20,000 to throw away celebrating a one hundred year-old fight over water rights, why can't it find the few dollars required to make public information held by government "freely" (or at actual cost) accessible? 4/7/06 update: there was no response from the council to the question.

you are well versed in the law, you should know the answer....kids do not need a license to fish...parents do and they usually have them but are not needed to help the kids enjoy a day on the town.

"kids do not need a license to fish"
"Kids" 14 and under right?

The 100 anniversary Fishing Derby is open to all ages and the town is buying fish for the event... and I assume is providing some sort of prizes. I asked the question because I would think there might be some people who aren't avid fisherman but might like to participate in this one event-- without the hassle or expense of getting state permission. I'm pretty sure the town can apply for an event exception that will allow residents to fish without a license and I'm just making that subtle suggestion.

I find that a hard to believe... I mean the town paid for the fish and it's not like one-hundred year anniversaries happen every year... just sounds town fishy to me.

I don't send my questions directly to the mayor I submit them through the clerk. The town site has this contact from that might serve your purpose.
