A Skate park would have several negative effects.
1.) Hoodlums would have a place to convene and comiserate.
2.) There will be injuries and asshole parents sueing thereafter because Jr. was hopped up on X & thought he could fly.
3.) It would encourage Skating, one of the least developmental and worthwhile activities possible. I mean ... when is the last time a Skater (there is only one Tony Hawk and millions of broken legged lazybones with baggy pants and poor attitudes) did anything for anyone.

Those that want a skatepark and who would be using the skatepark are only temporary residents in Mendham as they still live with Mummy and Daddy. The skaters have not and most likely never will acquire a work ethic that would allow them to afford living in Mendham on their own in the future.Since they won't be able to afford to live here, that eliminates pandering to them for future votes, so I would reasonably conclude the powers that be would assume a "Pound Salt" attitude, and rightly so. | i dont understand how you people can be so narrow minded, skateboarding is as much of a sport as football, soccer, or basketball, all of which i have played. After years of playing soccer and hockey i have accumulated more broken bones, head injuries, and cuts than i have ever in skateboarding. Ive been skating for 10 years now and have not broken one bone or had any serious injuries. Skateparks give us a place to go instead of destroying public property (which you all seem to complain about) and give us a place to meet up with friends. Does Mendham need a skatepark? Probably not, but it would be a welcome change of pace. How many soccer games can you fit into a weekend, let alone your already "hectic" schedules? Be sure to leave time to park the Mercedes-Benz/Lexus SUV (sorry SAV) and make it to dinner at the Black Horse, so the attendant can valet park your Porsche. Hope you get the front "look-at-me" parking spot. Wouldn't want to have to walk a couple extra yards and scuff the docksiders. |

Let's be open minded about this, at least and give it a chance to be tossed around. I am surprised to read all the anger over a skatepark and towards our neighbors...
A skatepark is a great idea for the kid who isn't into tennis, baseball, soccer, football, etc. It is an athletic activity that gets non-team sports playing kids off their butts. It's not easy to do and it's basically doable in all 4 seasons. Why are so many opposed? Probably b/c they see skater kids as punks. Meanwhile, look around, the jocks are just as bad, possibly worse.
There aren't even sidewalks in the township, so where whould the kids street skate? The parking lot at Kings? I am sure the cops would just love that...
If you are concerned about lawsuits, get the kids to get signed waivers from their parents and keep them on file. Enforce residents only (or the like) and helmets and pads. That's what other parks do.
Our kids shouldn't have to go to the indoor pay parks (like in Flanders) to skate.
Stop being so narrow minded and give all kids a place to get in some exercise. |

have any of you given the thought that an incredible more amount of injuries occurr on baseball, football, soccer, etc. fields than in skateparks? Kids break arms and legs in those sports almost as frequently or more than in skateboarding where atleast pads are required.
